Erin Davis - our Parade Grand Marshal for 2006
Our Grand Marshal for 2006 Erin Davis, was born in Edmonton, Alberta and as a result of her father's Air Force career, was raised everywhere, including Ottawa, Trenton and England. Her Great Grandfather who immigrated from Ireland before the Famine settled in Maniwaki, Quebec in the upper Gatineau Valley where he worked in the logging camps.
The Davis household was always filled with music and Erin's introduction to show business came at an early age when she sang regularly with her grandfather's orchestra. Her Grandfather, Clifton Mary Moore loved to play fiddle and stepdance. Erin?s Great-Grandfather was born to Thomas Moore and Mary Hargrove (Mary?s parents were born in 1814 in County Clare).
Her love of performing led her to study Radio Broadcasting at Loyalist College in Belleville. By her second year, a typical day for Erin was going to classes in the morning, hosting a radio show on CIGL-FM in the afternoon and playing piano at a local restaurant in the evening.
Upon graduation on the Dean's List, Erin moved to Windsor, Ontario and began reading morning news on CKLW, The Big Eight. Shortly after, she became the first female morning co-host in the powerful Detroit market. A station format change led Erin to move to Toronto, where she co-hosted the morning show on All News Radio CKO for four years. Her big break came in the summer of 1988 when the call came for her to do morning news on the popular Daynard Drive-In on 98.1 CHFI. The chemistry between Erin and host Don Daynard was magical and she soon became Don's co-host...a partnership that became hugely popular over their eleven years together until Don?s retirement.
In 1991 Erin took just one week off following the birth of Erin and Rob's baby girl, and then broadcast from home for three months. The unique work arrangement was considered precedent setting and opened the door for women in similar situations to maintain their position at work, avoid EI and still fulfill their wish to become mothers. After Don's retirement, Erin continued to host the CHFI morning show with Bob Magee until the spring of 2003. At that time the radio station decided to take another direction, one that didn't include her.
Then, Erin realized her lifelong dream when the W Network called and offered her the opportunity to host her own live national television talk show. W Live with Erin Davis was a daily hourlong program featuring guests and viewers discussing women's lifestyle, health and wellness issues. The show ran for one year.
Erin has done a considerable amount of work in television over the past few years. Following a number of guest-host positions at CFTO and Global, Erin wrote and performed a nightly commentary on CFTO News in 1998 and 1999 called Just So You Know. Then, for two seasons, she hosted a nightly talk show (more than 200 episodes) on Rogers Television called The Erin Davis Show. The lifestyle and wellness program, which was seen in over two million homes in Southern Ontario, received an award in its second season as Canada?s best cable talk show.
Following her departure from CHFI, Erin was also contacted by theatrical producer Ross Petty, who invited her to audition for a part in his annual Christmas family pantomime. She accepted his invitation and made her live theatre debut as the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella at Toronto's historic Elgin Theatre in December of 2003.
But what's truly magical is what has happened this year, in 2005. After eight months of filling in for a maternity vacancy with Mike Cooper on 97.3 EZ Rock, Erin was asked by CHFI to come back. So, on September 6th, much to her delight, Erin returned home to CHFI. And what's even better is that Mike also agreed to return to the Rogers fold, and joined her on the CHFI morning show.
Erin appears regularly at various public events as both an M.C. and a Keynote Speaker. She is also an accomplished vocalist, having fronted an oldies tribute band for 10 years. She was featured on three CD?s for the Toronto Blue Jays and Variety Club during the team?s pennant and World Series runs of the early 1990?s. In addition, Erin has sung national anthems at many Blue Jays, Maple Leafs and Argonauts games and boasts a winning record for the home team!
