Enterprise Ireland & Ireland Canada Chamber of Commerce Co-host Lunch for President McAleese

When Enterprise Ireland set up its office in Toronto in October last year, the Presidents visit was the first significant visit on the horizon around which was planned a business event for Irish companies that are clients of Enterprise Ireland and their Canadian partners. We were delighted to be able to work with the ICCC on this occasion and the feedback from this 500+ guest event highlighted the professionalism and enthusiastic cooperation of all concerned.

EI had 15 Ireland based companies attending with their guests, and took the opportunity to invite a significant number of Canadian market contacts of its own. Canada is clearly a market of opportunity for Irish indigenous exporters now.  Exports to Canada grew at close to 25% in 2006, and the currency stability vis-a vis the Euro will see more companies focusing as we move ahead. Existing Irish exporting companies currently employ over 5000 Canadians, and the number of Irish companies setting up operations in Canada is growing rapidly.

EI works with most indigenous companies, and will proactively push those sectors where Ireland has a strong supply capability, such as:  Financial & Telecoms Software, e-learning, 3rd level Education, Construction Products & Services, Marine Sciences, Agricultural Machinery etc.  Many of these sectors are well matched with growing or emerging opportunities in Canada, and already the percentage of exports to Canada that come from Irelands indigenous sector is running at twice the average.

From September, EI will be operating from new office premises at Suite 1501, 2 Bloor Street West, (same building as Tourism Ireland ) and will have additional staff to boost resources.

Enterprise Ireland, as a Pillar Sponsor of the Chamber looks forward to working with the ICCC to build business links between Ireland and Toronto, between the business community and the new wave of Irish exporters realising Canada’s potential, and to harness that goodwill for Ireland Inc.
